The Psychiatrist provides direct patient care to an assigned patient caseload at R.J. Blackley Alcohol and Drug Abuse Treatment Center (RJB ADATC). Job responsibilities include:

  • evaluating patients for hospital admission and developing the preliminary treatment plan
  • functions as part of the treatment team, participating in treatment team meetings and leading the development of comprehensive interdisciplinary treatment plans
  • documenting patient care rendered and the patients progress toward achievement of identified goals according to hospital standards
  • coordinating and supervising discharge plans
  • developing discharge summaries
  • providing on-call services as required
Although these are full-time positions, management will consider applicants who desire to work a part-time schedule (i.e., 20 to 36 hours). Annual salary be adjusted accordingly. The normal work hours for these positions are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., including on-call as scheduled; however, flexible work schedule will be considered. These positions are mandatory to the Adverse Weather Policy which will be discussed during the interview process.

R.J. Blackley Alcohol and Drug Abuse Treatment Center (RJB ADATC) is located in Butner, NC. RJB is one of three inpatient centers for treatment of co-occurring substance use disorders in conjunction with other psychiatric and medical illnesses RJB is accredited by the Joint Commission and Certified by Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) as an inpatient psychiatric hospital.

Our location is ideal with four seasons, mild temperatures and provides an easy drive to the N.C. mountains or beaches. Butner possesses small town charm but is within 30 minutes of a major metropolitan area including Research Triangle Park, Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

To receive credit for all of your work history and credentials, you must list the information on the application form. Qualified candidates must document on the application that they possess all of the following:
  • Graduation from an accredited medical school and completion of psychiatry residency (or anticipated completion before job commencement)
  • Board certified or eligible
  • Professional knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to adult patients, as credentialed by the Medical Staff
  • Professional experience leading and collaborating on an interdisciplinary team to provide integrated, comprehensive patient care is essential
  • Experience performing bio/psycho/social psychiatric assessments, evaluations and psychotropic medication management for adults, preferably in an inpatient setting
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients and their families, clinical and non-clinical staff, etc.
  • Experience compiling clear and concise notes for patients' charts and maintaining appropriate clinical documentation
  • Interpreting laboratory results, clinical data and information relative to the patient's condition
  • Excellent communication skills that demonstrate ability to respond to patients in a prompt, respectful, caring and compassionate manner
  • Must be able to successfully maintain CPR and NVCI certification
Management prefers:
  • Experience in inpatient setting with medical management of detoxification and professional knowledge and management of patients on Methadone and Buprenophine.
  • Experience supervising and guiding work performance of psychiatric residents, fellows and Physician Extenders.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Licensed to practice medicine in the State of North Carolina.

**Eligibility for Sign-on Bonus
Qualified applicants must be selected from the candidate pool of this posting and meet the State policy following requirements:
A newly hired permanent full time or permanent part-time employee who works 30 to 40 hours per week is eligible for a sign-on bonus (this will be prorated for employees working less than 40 hours per week).
An employee is not eligible for a sign-on bonus if:
(1) the employee has held a position in North Carolina State government, including the judicial system, or the University of North Carolina system within the last 12 months (the employee shall remain ineligible for 12 months from the separation date);
(2) the employee has previously received a sign-on bonus from any State agency;
(3) or DHHS has paid any contract placement or recruitment fees.
