The Business Development Manager Beverage provides commercial leadership for the beverage market. The BDM leads the development of business plans to deliver growth and serves as the commercial lead for beverage innovation. The position manages the beverage market, identifying customer and market needs and translating those needs into value propositions and communicating the required internal needs to execute. The BDM Beverage feeds Synergy's innovation pipeline and drives the commercialization of products, solutions, and technologies, partnering with Sales, Marketing, Flavor Creation, Applications, and Research.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Leads the development of business plans for the Beverage business.
Responsible for identifying market segments, understanding the market landscape for the company products; identifying growth opportunities and capability gaps, evaluating the competitive offerings in these segments, and communicating the requirements of these market segments to Research & Development and senior leadership.
Determine current and future needs by researching customer needs/wants and industry trends for developing value propositions.
Collaborate with the commercial team on Beverage pricing strategy to produce the highest possible long-term market share, sales volume, and profitability.
Commercial lead for the beverage innovation pipeline partnering with technical to populate and advance projects through the innovation pipeline process.
Create sales enablement tools and training designed to advance customers/prospects through the buying journey.
Collaborate with marketing on pipeline generation programs.
Represent the voice of the customer and market to ensure consideration in opportunity prioritization and resource allocation.
Work with Account Managers and VP Sales to develop and execute strategies at target accounts and for new account identification.
Serve as the market SME (subject matter expert) externally at customers and trade shows and internally with functional groups.
Bachelor's Degree in Business/Marketing (with strong technical acumen) or Food Science, Chemistry
Master's Degree a plus.
Direct beverage industry experience with experience in marketing ingredients to beverage companies a plus
8+ years job related experience in product management, marketing, and/or sales in the food ingredients and/or flavor industry.
Experience in new product development from conception to market launch.
Experience in leading cross-functional teams to execute strategies.
Strong strategic planning, marketing, and project management skills.
Proven leadership abilities and strong presence. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Outstanding interpersonal skills with ability to influence cross-functional team members, as well as senior management.
In-depth knowledge of the flavor and food ingredient global marketplace as it relates to beverages.
Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
Team player who enjoys customer contact and skilled at cross-cultural communication
Self-starter with high energy level
Willingness to travel at some point in a changing COVID environment. Pre-COVID travel was up to 30%.
